CSSDAR Website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 29, 2026

About these terms

These Terms of Use and Privacy Policy apply to californiadar.org (the "Site"). The Site is run by The California State Society of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution ("CSSDAR," "we," "us," or "our").

By using the Site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

These terms cover only the state Site. Chapter websites outside the Site, the National Society (NSDAR) website, and other linked sites have their own terms and policies.

Part 1: Terms of Use

Member area

Some parts of the Site are only for logged-in NSDAR members of the California State Society. To log in, you must belong to a California DAR chapter. You do not need to live in California. If you use the member area, you agree to:

  • Keep your login information private and not share your account.
  • Use member information, including any member directory, only for DAR purposes.
  • Not copy, sell, publish, or share member information outside DAR.
  • Not use member information for advertising, sales, fundraising for outside groups, or political purposes.
  • Not try to access areas, accounts, or information you are not permitted to see.

We may suspend or remove access to the member area if these rules are broken.

Site content and photos

Text, photos, graphics, and documents on the Site belong to CSSDAR or to the people who created them. You may view, download, and print Site content for personal or DAR use. You may not copy, change, sell, or republish Site content for other purposes without our written permission.

DAR name and insignia

The Daughters of the American Revolution name, DAR insignia, and related marks belong to NSDAR. Do not use them without permission from NSDAR. Using the Site does not give you any right to use these marks.

Links to other websites

The Site links to websites outside the Site, such as the NSDAR website, chapter websites hosted elsewhere, and outside organizations. We do not control websites outside the Site. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, terms of use or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse the website. Chapter pages that are part of the Site are covered by these terms.

Online payments

Event registration and payments are handled by a third-party service, such as RegFox or a payment processor connected to the Site. That service's own terms and privacy policy will apply to your payment. Chapter dues are not paid through the Site at this time.

No guarantees

We work to keep the Site accurate and available. However, the Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that the Site will always be available, error-free, or free of harmful components. Information on the Site relates to the work of NSDAR and CSSDAR, is general in nature, and may change without notice.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, CSSDAR and its officers, volunteers, and members are not liable for any damages that result from using, or being unable to use, the Site or any linked website.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. We will post the updated version on the Site with a new effective date. If you keep using the Site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.

Part 2: Privacy Policy

Information we collect

  • Member information from NSDAR. We load member records from NSDAR. These may include any information in those records, such as name, contact information, and chapter. We do not create or change these records ourselves. This data is protected or only available to member-only access.
  • Login information. When members log in, the Site keeps the account details needed to sign in.
  • Event and payment information. If we offer event registration or online payments, we collect the details needed for that registration or payment. Card payments are handled by a third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers. Chapter dues are not paid or processed through the Site at this time.
  • Technical information. Our website providers automatically collect basic technical information, such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This is used to run and protect the Site.

How we use information

  • To run the Site and its member area
  • To send state society news and announcements to members by email
  • To manage events and payments, if offered
  • To protect the Site from misuse
  • To meet legal requirements

We do not sell or rent personal information.

Member email

Members may receive email from CSSDAR as part of their membership. We send member email through an email service, such as Constant Contact or the Site's own email tools. The service we use may change over time. Each email includes an unsubscribe link.

Member directories

We may publish member directories, including a directory of members who hold roles in the state society. Directories are available only to logged-in NSDAR members of the California State Society. Members who use a directory must follow the member area rules in Part 1.

Information we publish publicly

The public Site may show information about members, such as:

  • Names, roles, contact email addresses, and photos of state officers and committee members
  • Photos from DAR events that include members, which may name them in the caption
  • Names of award recipients and members recognized for their accomplishments, such as published authors

Officers and committee chairs agree to the public listing of their name, role, contact email, and photos as part of accepting their position.

If you want a photo or mention of yourself removed, contact us at [email protected]. We will review the request.

Service providers

We use outside companies to run the Site. They handle information only to provide their services to us:

  • MemberClicks, a Momentive Software product, hosts the Site and member area.
  • Cloudflare provides security and network services for the Site.
  • Constant Contact may send member email. We may instead use the Site's own email tools.
  • A payment processor handles event registration and payments. For now, we link to RegFox, a separate website, for registrations and payments. Later, these may move inside the Site using a payment processor supported by MemberClicks. RegFox and any processor have their own privacy policies.

Each provider has its own privacy policy. We may also share information if required by law, or if needed to protect the rights, property, or safety of CSSDAR, our members, or others.

Cookies

The Site uses cookies and similar tools to keep members logged in and to protect the Site. You can block cookies in your browser, but the member-only area may not work without them. The Site does not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

Keeping and updating your information

Member information comes from NSDAR records. To update your information, update it with NSDAR. Changes are reflected on the Site when NSDAR records are loaded. When a membership ends, the member's profile is deactivated and archived. Archived profiles are not visible on the Site but may be kept and restored if needed.

NSDAR's handling of member records is described in the NSDAR Privacy Policy at dar.org/nsdar-privacy-policy.

Children

The Site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, contact us and we will remove it from the Site.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy at any time. We will post the updated version on the Site with a new effective date.
