The Santa Lucia Chapter is located in Salinas, California,
often referred to as “Steinbeck Country,” because it is the home
of the late author John Steinbeck, or “America’s Salad
Bowl," because of our rich agriculture. Salinas is close to the
sparkling waters of the Monterey Bay, host to the California
Rodeo in the summer, and witness to the richness of our cultural
diversity.
Most of our members live in various communities of the
Salinas Valley, but we also have some long-distance members who
enjoy maintaining ties to this chapter. We think you will find
us to be a warm, friendly group of women, representing a wide
variety of ages, professions, and interests. One thing we share
in common is our love of country and supporting the pursuits
of DAR. We meet once a month, September through June.
We appreciate every member's efforts to help fulfill our goals.
Giant (18 foot tall) wooden workers (above) can be seen
throughout the fields of Salinas, representing the workers who
help us enjoy the tremendous agricultural gifts of our region.
The artist is John Cerney.
How May I Join?
The Santa Lucia Chapter welcomes any woman for membership who
is over 18 years of age and is descended from a man or woman who
aided in achieving American Independence during the period
between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783.
First, research your family tree and establish your lineage.
You can complete a pedigree chart.
Second, identify your patriot ancestor. There are books,
documents, and many other sources available. The DAR Lineage
Lookup Volunteers can also lend assistance.
Third, order copies of birth and marriage certificates,
connecting the generations back to your patriot ancestor. Then
your local chapter will help you complete your actual
application for DAR membership.
Once you get started researching your genealogy, you will
find yourself on a wonderful adventure, learning more
about your forefathers and heritage. However, we understand that
initially it can be a bit daunting. Our Chapter Registrar, Jane
Vallejo, and our Lineage Committee are available to offer
research suggestions and to help you in documenting your
information. Please contact us at
