The
Santa Lucia Chapter DAR
was organized on October 31, 1938, by Mrs. John A. Currie, the
first Regent. We have been honored to have 31 Regents to date,
and we presently have 36 members. We welcome new members and
are happy to assist interested women in learning how they can
become a member.

From 1950-1952
our chapter Regent was Mabel Harvey Griffin, a descendant
of Isaac Julian Harvey, the First Mayor of Salinas. Pictured
above are some of the chapter members in 1944. Second from the
left in the first row is organizing Regent, Helen Currie. Fifth
from the left in the first row is Mabel Harvey Griffin.
Florence Baker, a granddaughter of the First Mayor, is first
from the left in the back row.
We hold some of our meetings in the historic
First Mayor's House, and lend support to preserving this
beautiful Victorian home. The First Mayor's House is now a
museum and education center.

;
In November 2008
we celebrated our chapter's 70th anniversary. We were honored to receive State Regent Leonora Branca and District VI Director
Susan Bergtholdt as our guests at the celebration.
Rising up between the fertile fields of the
Salinas Valley and the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean are
the Santa Lucia Mountains. It is for this
beautiful mountain range that our chapter is named.

Our chapter is
growing and we welcome new members. We are happy to assist
interested women in learning how they can become a member.
