California State Society  Daughters of the American Revolution Merced River Chapter Merced, California

Welcome! 

We welcome any woman for membership who is over 18 years of age and who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American Independence during the period between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783.

The main objectives of our chapter are to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence, and to cherish, maintain, and extend American History, Education, and Patriotism.  Our meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month, September through May, with no meeting in December.

Chapter History

The Merced River Chapter is named for the river which originates in the Yosemite Valley.  Ms. Virginia Chase, Organizing Regent, and nineteen members, formed the chapter on October 9, 1990.  It is one of California's Seven Centennial Chapters, all organized during the society's 100th year, earning a First Place National Award for the State Society.

On April 18, 1997, after thirty years of service to the nation, the Mariposa Chapter merged with Merced River.  Mariposa means "butterfly" in its native Spanish, and somehow it seems most fitting to have a lovely butterfly along side a mighty river.
