Kaweah Chapter Daughters of the American
Revolution celebrated their 50th anniversary on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at
a luncheon held at the Lamp Liter Inn in Visalia, with Regent Jane Blair
presiding.
Honored guest was Linda Calvin of Visalia, who
was elected to the office of Recording Secretary General of the National
Society DAR, at the July Continental Congress in Washington, DC.
Linda previously served on the local level as Chapter Regent and on the
state level in four offices, including State Regent, 2000-2004.
Honorary President General of the National
Society, Dorla Kemper of Granite Bay, gave a tribute to Linda for her service
to DAR on the local, state, and national levels. Debbie Jamison of Fresno,
also a member of the local society, was recognized for her service as the
National Chairman of the DAR Service for Veterans Committee, overseeing the
DAR's involvement in serving and honoring Veterans across the country. Also in
attendance were the State Regent Nancy Alexander from Danville, two
Honorary State Regents from Southern California, and ten state officers from
around the state.
Mayor Bob Link brought congratulatory greetings
to the chapter in addition to issuing a Constitution Week proclamation from
the City of Visalia. Constitution Week
is celebrated each year from September 17 - 23.
Kaweah Chapter was organized October 28, 1954,
with 18 organizing members, and today has over 60 members.
The annual activities of the chapter include the celebration of
Constitution Week, the sponsoring of the American History Essay contest, the
awarding of the DAR Good Citizenship Medal to area middle school graduates,
the awarding of the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarships to graduating
seniors, as well as other activities. During
Mrs. Calvin's term as State Regent, the chapter provided funds for the
building of the Wildflower Gazebo at SCICON.
During the celebration on Tuesday, the Kaweah
