Chapter History      
         
The Joshua Tree Chapter was organized by Mrs. Dupont B. Upshaw and was confirmed by the National Board of Management on October 15, 1987. The organizational meeting and installation of officers was held October 31, 1987 at the Officers Club, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-Nine Palms, California.
         
The Chapter took its name from the unique Joshua Tree that grows in Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding area.
         
         
         
About the DAR      
         
The Society was found October 11, 1890. There are approximately 190,000 members in 3,024 chapters throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. The National Headquarters is located in three adjoining structures in Washington D.C. The DAR Motto is "God, Home and Country."  The DAR Objectives are historic preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavor.
         
Eligibility      
         
An applicant for membership must be no less than 18 years of age. She shall prove lineal blood line decent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American Independence. The ancestor may have signed the Declaration of Independence, served in the Military, served in Civil Service or provided other Patriotic Service.
