Community Activities
Good Citizenship Awards: Each Spring the Estudillo Chapter presents good citizenship certificates and medals to two fifth grade students in each of the Hemet and San Jacinto elementary schools. The students are selected by their teachers.

The John Diggs History Award is an endowment fund set up by former member, Margaret Jahn, in memory of her mother and grandmother.  The award is named after Captain John Diggs, Mrs. Jahn's Revolutionary war ancestor.  The scholarships are given to four seniors selected by the faculty of the history department of the local high schools.

The Brubaker English Award was established to honor Caroline Brubaker. Mrs. Brubaker was one of the chapter's 25 charter members when the chapter organized on March 12, 1940.  Today, the scholarship is funded by her granddaughter, Lorraine Brubaker Rennick.  Awards are given to four graduating seniors, selected by the faculty of the English department of the local high schools.

The recipients of the Good Citizenship, John Diggs History and Brubaker English awards for 2012 are shown with their DAR presenter on our Photo Scrapbook page.

Constitution Week: Constitution Week 2010 was celebrated with a Seminar: "The Making of America" sponsored by the Estudillo Chapter, open to the General Public and was an integral event in Celebration of the City of  Hemet's 100 Year Centennial.  This Seminar was conducted by Judge Lester N. Pearce, our designated Speaker, who along with his extensive service on the bench has been an active member of The National Center for Constitution Studies for over 30 years. The Seminar was held on Saturday, September 18th. Several members were attired in colonial garb. The opening ceremony consisted of Posting of the Colors by the West Valley High School, JROTC, followed by a prayer given by our Acting Chapter Chaplin and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of  "God Bless America". Followed by welcoming remarks and introduction of our speaker by our Regent.

Family History Month
: We spend a day in the Heritage Room at the Hemet Public Library during the Family History Month of October. We also attend the "Family History Fair" at the LDS Church in Hemet each October. Top genealogists hold classes and it is extremely well attended. There we set up a display and tell visitors about our society.

ROTC Awards
: Our chapter gives bronze medals to graduating senior cadets that meet the academic and military discipline of the ROTC program in three high schools, two in Hemet and one in San Jacinto.

Literacy Committee
: Members of the Estudillo Chapter have "adopted" the Jacob Wiens Elementary School in Hemet, CA. Some of our members volunteer several hours a week helping teachers in the classroom with their specific needs including paperwork and direct contact with students in the area of reading, spelling and mathematics, and sometimes kindergarten art work. It is great fun and the school staff and students are very appreciative.

In support of our active service men and women throughout the world, our members have donated over 130 appropriate subject paper books which were distributed through Operation Gratitude to Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force service personnel. So far Operation Gratitude has provided over 600,000 boxes over the past few years. Previously we had donated the books to the Loma Linda University Veterans Hospital.

Other Activities
: In addition to the activities outlined above, Estudillo Chapter members contribute to U.S. Veterans programs, Toys for Tots, Ronald McDonald House, Pennies for Pines, and other charitable endeavors.
