Members of the chapter have an event to enjoy
nearly every Thursday during the academic year between September
through June. Board members meet the first Thursday of the month
to handle the nitty gritty planning and general
functioning of the chapter, receive news from the national
and state organizations and to feast on delicious sweet rolls.
The second Thursday of the month is reserved for
the large meeting of the lineage group. Interest in genealogy
flourishes like a California pepper tree and members come
together to share, help and to appreciate each
other's findings.
The third week sees the general meeting
at a local country club. In this setting, overlooking
much of the San Fernando Valley, business is conducted
and lunch is eaten while table mates discuss with animation
topics of all sorts -- genealogy, movies, books, interior decoration,
schools and so on. After lunch, a program is presented. These
have been uniformly interesting; featuring visuals and
expert information concerning, for example, conservation,
veterans' affairs, and all sorts of little known historical themes.
On the fourth week of the month, the library
chairman arranges a trip to one of the excellent genealogical
libraries in the Los Angeles area. The interested members
carpool to Burbank and Westwood or take the Metrolink train to
the Los Angeles Central Library. We have even taken overnight
trips to a Carlsbad library. So much fun!
If there is a fifth Thursday in the month, the
members rest.
