Bakersfield Chapter

Bakersfield, California

Thank you for visiting the website for Bakersfield Chapter located in the middle of the Golden State within its Central Valley.  Our Chapter Motto is “Show Pride in Our Past and Faith in Our Future.”

In 1920, three friends spoke of organizing a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Bakersfield. Their reality came on April 26, 1921, when Bakersfield Chapter NSDAR was officially organized with 14 charter members. On October 7, 1995, Bakersfield Chapter merged with the Grapevine Chapter.  Membership to date is 78 members and growing.  Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month in members’ homes with two luncheon meetings on the first Saturday in May and December to accommodate working members

The chapter sponsors a display in the Beale Memorial Library marking Constitution Week, September 17th - 23rd.  Chapter members are very active within the Kern Genealogical Society and are available to help with your research in the Genealogy Room on the second floor of the library.  We are very proud of our two new Volunteer Field Genealogists, Kay Keith and Anita-Jo Cowen.  Both of these ladies are available to assist in your research.

During the school year, Bakersfield Chapter recognizes and honors participants in the DAR Good Citizens Contest; awards ROTC Bronze Medals to cadets from five local high school ROTC groups; and presents winners of the American History Essay contest in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 with certificates.  These special ceremonies are attended by members of the chapter, parents, students, and school personnel.

In December, the chapter recognizes the chapter winner of the DAR Good Citizen Contest, presenting him or her with a certificate and check.  The winner is invited to our Christmas Luncheon held the first Saturday of December.

In May, the chapter hosts an annual spring luncheon in a member's yard where we honor the DAR Good Citizen Contest participants.

Bakersfield Chapter supports the DAR Schools with donations of thrift items, Campbell's product labels, and monetary donations.

Bakersfield Chapter has members active at the District and State levels.  We are consistently an award-winning chapter.

We welcome any woman for membership who is over 18 years of age and who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American Independence during the period between April 19, 1775 and November 26, 1783.  For further membership information click on the Who We Are tab at the left.
